A Sunrise Above the Wild
There is a particular kind of silence that comes when you float above the Serengeti at dawn. The plains stretch endlessly below, dotted with wildlife: herds moving through golden grass, a lone elephant crossing a dry riverbed, or a pride of lions resting beneath an acacia.
The Experience
A hot air balloon safari offers a perspective you simply cannot get from the ground. The adventure begins before sunrise with an early morning drive to the launch site, where you watch the balloon inflate against a sky just beginning to lighten.
Once aloft, the flight typically lasts about an hour, drifting with the wind in near-total silence, broken only by the occasional burst of the burner.
Where to Experience It
In Tanzania, balloon safaris are available across several areas of the Serengeti, including central Seronera, northern Kogatende near the Mara River, and the southern plains during the calving season.
They are also offered in Tarangire National Park, where ancient baobab forests and elephant herds create a stunning aerial backdrop.
Champagne Breakfast in the Bush
After landing on the open plains, you are treated to a champagne breakfast prepared on-site and served under the morning sun. It is one of those experiences that stays with you for years.
Good to Know
Balloon safaris are operated by specialist third-party companies and are weather-dependent. Flights may be cancelled in high winds or heavy rain.
We recommend booking early, especially during the peak season from July to October, as availability is limited.
Who It Is For
This experience is suitable for most ages and fitness levels, though it may not be ideal for guests with back injuries due to occasionally bumpy landings.
